Statement of Faith
At KHGM Mercy Seat Parish, we hold firmly to the historic, orthodox Christian faith as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. The following statements summarise the core doctrines we believe, teach, and live by.
1. The Holy Bible
We believe that the Bible, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It is the supreme and final authority for all matters of faith and practice in the life of the believer and the Church (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
2. The Trinity
We believe in one eternal God, who exists in three co-equal, co-eternal Persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Each Person is fully God, distinct in Person but united in essence, nature, and purpose (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14).
3. Jesus Christ
We believe in the full deity and true humanity of Jesus Christ. We believe in His miraculous virgin birth, His sinless life, His substitutionary death on the cross for the sins of all humanity, His bodily resurrection from the dead on the third day, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal, visible return in glory (John 1:1-14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
4. Salvation by Grace
We believe that salvation is entirely by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It cannot be earned or merited by human effort, good works, or religious observance. Salvation is the free gift of God to all who repent of their sins and place their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10).
5. The Holy Spirit
We believe in the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin, regenerates and indwells every believer at salvation, empowers believers for holy living and effective witness, and manifests His spiritual gifts in and through the Church today (Acts 2:1-4; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Galatians 5:22-23).
6. The Church
We believe in the universal Church, the body and bride of Christ, made up of all true believers across all ages, nations, and denominations. We believe in the local church as God's primary instrument for worship, teaching, fellowship, discipleship, and mission in the world (Ephesians 1:22-23; Matthew 16:18).
7. The Sacraments
We observe two ordinances instituted by Christ: Water Baptism (by immersion, as a public declaration of faith and identification with Christ's death and resurrection) and the Lord's Supper (Holy Communion), which we observe together regularly as a remembrance of Christ's sacrifice and a proclamation of His return (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
8. Divine Healing
We believe that healing — physical, emotional, and spiritual — is provided through the atonement of Christ and is available to believers today through prayer and faith. We pray for the sick and believe God heals in accordance with His will and Word (James 5:14-16; Isaiah 53:4-5).
9. The Return of Christ
We believe in the personal, visible, and imminent return of Jesus Christ. He will return to receive His Church, to judge the living and the dead, and to establish His eternal Kingdom (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 22:20).
10. Eternal Life and Eternal Judgement
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all people — the saved to eternal life in the presence of God, and the unsaved to eternal separation from God (John 5:28-29; Revelation 20:11-15). This is the ultimate reason we preach the Gospel without ceasing.
